Not long ago I needed, or wanted, to scan a bunch of paper. Looking at my 4+ year old scanner/printer and remembering some recent posts about modern scanners which have multi-document feeders I was tempted to go out and buy myself something else.
Thank God I had my “wait 2 weeks before giving yourself permission to make a big buy” rule in place. I’m very happy still with my old scanner. Happier even, I think, because of that feeling that I’m making do with something. Using it. Using it up.
Mrs Micah posts along those lines in “Make it Do” where she relates how she manages to survive with a VCR which throws tapes at you when you hit eject and a laptop that needs, literally, bandages.
Sometimes you can’t do anything but replace the item. [...]
But if it’s still working, perhaps you can make it do without any real suffering. That frees up your money for doing what you really want to with it—paying down debt, building wealth, or buying something else!
Can you “make it do” this week?
