“Shop now for later” naturally is one of the smartest ways to be a frugal consumer. That said, it doesn’t help you right now.

What you can do right now:

Thrift store: this is one place you should get familiar with. Intimately familiar. Thrift stores have some of the best deals, many selling label items but with the labels removed. A lot of quaint fashion items can be used as a costume instead. Think creative: hobo, 80′s punk, Madonna look-alike, etc. It might not be the light saber powered science fiction costume your kid wanted but hey… this is a Halloween costume; not nutritional food.
Closet: yours and/or others. Again, think creatively. Some of those items you, your father, aunt, friend, etc. have stored upfront or down deep in the closet are unique, golden items to turn into a costume.

The best thing about many of these approaches is that it brings back creativity which in turns means you have a unique costume instead of “yet another.”
