Slash Back To School Costs in 9 Steps

Pretty soon it’s back to school for the kids, which means that now or pretty soon it’s time for a lot of parents to pull out the checkbook and start paying.

Of course school costs recession-wise parents have their own tricks to reduce the “damage” and avoid Back To School turning into Back To Debt.

David from Moneyning comes out with 9 cost-reducing strategies. I’ve bolded the really solid ones and deleted the bad ones.

  • Check Out Bargains All Year
  • Dollar Store is Your Friend
  • Do Everything Online
  • Technology Should Not Be That Expensive
  • Tax Free Days
  • Shop Late
  • Shop Alone
  • Shop Around
  • Second Hand is Not Second Class

Shop For Next Year

The shop late advice only makes sense when combined with the check out bargains all year: in the coming months, when the Back To School period is over, grab what you need at dump prices for next year. That way you can shop late and save. Otherwise you’re just preparing for stress and, most likely, increased cost.

Online Deals: Beware of S&H

To buy as much as you can online might only make sense if you buy everything at one place. Otherwise buying a few of this here and a few of that there plus the shipping & handling will set you back much more than you could ever save.

On the whole David’s post provides good advice combined with good explanations. Worth a read to save a buck.
